Hangover In Havana, Cuba Part 1

I recently spent 3 nights in Havana, Cuba. It was amazing. I did my destination research but kind of winged it with this trip.

My trip to Havana was rather inexpensive. My round trip flight from Providence, RI was about $270. We took American Airlines to Havana. Our tickets wouldn’t print in our first airport so that took some time at the counter to fix. Luckily we had a really nice lady that figured out everything so she could get us our tickets. Β Our long layover was in Miami for 9 hours. We were last getting on one of the connecting flights to Miami. They made us check our luggage. I was so against this but had no choice.

Fast forward to arriving in Miami where we now can’t get our luggageΒ which has all of my stuff in it for the morning to shower etc.
So we make the best out of it and head to a bar I used to work at with my old roommate. We are going to eat, have two drinks and go to bed. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Yeah right kid. Who were we kidding?

I think we had three drinks so not too crazy or five, I dunno. We also made the day of traveling like a day drinking excursion. We get back to my friend’s house and she makes me a margarita. I drink half. I set my alarm for 4:30 it’s now about 2am. We still need to get visas at the airport and be there no later than 5:30am. Our flight leaves at 7am.

I wake up to my friend saying “Guys it’s 5:30”. My friend Heather who is going with me answers “Yeah, so?” πŸ˜‚ It takes me a minute to realize why 5:30 is important. F*ck, get up, get up! We gotta go. My friend Chelsea is asking if we want coffee! No, no, no! Heather is brushing her teeth. As hurting as I was it was time to run to the car and that’s it! Miami traffic is no joke!

We get to security 6:09am. Good job Chelsea on that morning drive! I’m like 11 steps in front of Heather cause well that’s just how I roll. I do everything 100 miles an hour and being half hungover, half drunk still isn’t gonna slow me down when my mission is to get somewhere. I do turn around and not see her getting in line so I yell “What’s going on?” The line security lady says “Your friend doesn’t have her ticket.” I’m like “Wtf, I’ll go buy your visa.” She now has to stand in line to get another ticket. The line is a mile long and it’s 6:15am at this point. I get the visas. I’m the last to board. They won’t give her a ticket now it’s too late. I leave the visa with a lady from the airlines and call her to tell her I’ll wait for you in the airport in Cuba. Luckily there was another flight at 9am. I later learn Heather then finds her ticket but then can’t find her passport. She eventually does because someone turned it in because she left it at kiosk. πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

I’m off to Cuba by myself. I arrive and of course our long-awaited luggage does not. Now I have no service and have no idea if Heather got a seat on the 9am flight and where the f*ck our bags are. Eventually I find out you have to buy Wi-Fi cards that work only in certain areas and a nice man gives me one. I sat down on the airport floor and started thinking about how credit cards don’t work here from the U.S. and how screwed I am if no luggage shows up. I start picturing myself washing out my underwear in the sink and how annoyed I will be to be stuck in these clothes for the rest of my time here. Β I wonder if Heather is even on the 9am flight? I think I need a shot.IMG_20180304_210849_624

Eventually Heather finds me and then another hour or two later we get our bags. We head across the street from airport. I order 2 shots of espresso for us, we hire a driver to our Air Bnb and it is now 1pm. I must look like death and haven’t brushed my teeth yet. We have a picture tour of Havana at 3:30pm. We slept 3 1/2 hours at most. Cuba is off to a great start. πŸ˜‚ This is Cuba day 1. We arrive right on time to our picture tour. Β Showered and teeth brushed. If you are trying to hide you feel like death sunglasses are magical cover-ups.

*Part 2: More details of the trip and the food. Β I also jump balconies to go pet a dog. I thought it was a good idea at the time. Reason 736 why I’m single. πŸ˜‚ One day someone will appreciate my enthusiasm and spontaneous behavior! Life is too short to always behave as a grownup! 😜

I think for 3 1/2 hours of sleep we are looking rather put together. Fake it until you make it. 😎IMG_20180305_202415_052AirBrush_20180319001900
